Title : A Different Approach for Spatial Planning of the Tlalpan Delegation in Mexico City.
Tlalpan is the largest county of Mexico City. From its 308 square kilometers, 20% is urban , with a population of 580,000 inhabitants. An important part of the area, is a montaneous forest region of volcanic subsoil which permiates the heavy rain of the area to the undergrounds of Mexico City, from which 70% of the water supply for 20 million inhabitants is provided. On this area three small towns with a very rapid growth are located, occupying more space every day and therefore taking area for the filtration of water and reducing the forest, which is of capital importance for the attraction of rain, and for purifying the air polution.
Interest for participants
1. To elaborate this project we deal with two different approaches, the one of urban planners like my self and the planning perspective of scholars with an environmental perspective, hence, creating a conflict which have to be resolved anyway in order to have a reasonable project.
2. Thanks to new computer software and hardware, we were able to make territorial population distribution analysis, with new procedures designed by my team which in the Mexican context are a novelty.
3. As a framework of refference for our project, we have to consider two comprehensive plans for the City, the urban and the ecological plans, in general consistent, but when you enlarge the scale for the analysis of just a part of the city you have to deal with many problems.
