Abstract |
Abstract: The unique character of any waterfront stems its magic not only from the physicality of its urban form but also from the cultural characteristics of users. Within the unique character of waterfronts and in light of the coherent and dynamic interrelationship between culture and urban form three main questions announce themselves, “how far do behavioral activities affect and are affected by the spatial implications of waterfronts and the cultural heritage of users?”, “how land/waterscape is demonstrated to fulfill and reflect users identity?”, and “to what extent do cultural values and behavioral activities affect the integration between users and the water front’s physical aspects?”
The above is highlighted through an analytical comparative study of two cities, Alexandria (Egypt) and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), focusing on the spatial implications of cultural identity/diversity of both cities. Through the study a theoretical review is conducted. Moreover, the research is accomplished by utilizing data collected from primary resources, (observation and semi-structured interviews), which is guided by the theoretical study outcomes. |
