Abstract |
Urban sprawl refers to urban development along major external corridors of big cities. This has been identified as a typical urbanized phenomenon in urbanizing countries, especially in developing countries, causing inefficient land uses, transport bottle necks and environmental pollutions. Conventional planning approaches such as master-planning, strategic road widening, satellite city system etc. seem still ineffective.
This paper depicts some urban sprawl experiences of Viet Nam cities. Then it analyses the challenges and opportunities in the light of the country urban development trends and perspective. Finally, it proposes some new ways of thinking in addressing the issue. |
