Abstract |
The upsurge in carbon emission in China was mainly resulted from the outdated mode of energy utilization and the increasing demand for heat and power. How to efficiently control the carbon emission while satisfying the need of urban development has been an issue China has to face as well as a key measure in response to the global climate change. To implement such ideas, we constructed a low carbon city in Yingkou city of Liaoning province based on the massive power and heat cogeneration. On basis of a forecast of the urban demand for heat and power, we planned and constructed a handful of coal-fired thermal power plants combining the reconstruction of the existing heat source for industry in an effort to improve the utilization rate of energies in the whole region, reduce carbon emission and create favorable conditions for the installation of centralized carbon capture devices. This plan is not only a bold attempt to create a low-carbon city with Chinese characteristic, but also provides a rewarding reference for the mitigation of carbon emission in the developing countries. |
