Abstract |
Environment and resources have become the two critical restraining factors for the intensification of China‘s transformation on development reform. Wuhan urban agglomeration has been established the ‘two-type society‘ (resource-saving society and environmental-friendly society) comprehensive experimental district, aiming to explore a new development model which can realize the sustainable development of economy, society and environment. Wuhan urban agglomeration is located in Hubei Province which enjoys the good reputation ‘the Province with thousands of lakes‘. However, with the rapid progressing of urbanization and industrialization in recent years, the lakeshore districts were constantly encroached, resulting in the quality decline of the lake water and deterioration of the ecosystem. The National Twelfth Five-Year Plan put forward the general guiding principle ‘Accelerating urbanization positively and steadily‘. Urbanization still remains China‘s significant strategy in the coming period of time. International experience shows that urbanization helps to effectively promote the development of local economy. In the economic development of the lakeshore districts, it is of typical modeling significance to deal with the contradiction between acceleration of urbanization in lakeshore districts and environmental protection of the lakes. This paper aims to explore a new approach to develop the lakeshore districts. It takes ‘Healthy Lake‘ as the primary principle. Combined with the planning practices of Wutong Lake Ecological Creative City in Wuhan Urban Agglomeration, it also ‘Healthy Lake‘ as guiding principle in project location selection, population capacity calculation, Industry selection, land distribution and the system construction of the subsequent cities. Relying on the healthy lake resources, develop produced services industry and then realize the aggregating effect and form an alerting system to keep the sustainable health of the lakes. |
