Abstract |
The paper analyses the strategy transforming a heavy industry dominated area to an tourism destination in the city, a challenging work for both the government and the academics, based on Shijingshan, western district of Beijing proper. After examining status quo of the steel complex, cemeteries famous for burying veterans dead during the revolutionary course and past high ranking officials, it is certain that to turn them into scenic spots by overcoming spiritual barriers and traditional value. For the countryside, the 58 villages should be kept for people to experience original style of farming life that is popular across contemporary China. The paper is just a beginning of the transfroming strategy. It at least serves as a confidence building in the process of strategic shift. Aspects such as cemetery, especialy the contemporary one, turning to natural and cultural resources need larger scale survey to reflect local opinion and estimate traveling demand from outside. |
