Abstract |
CASE: New Belgrade(NB) - part of the city of Belgrade, build after the WW2 by socialist regime of Yugoslavia on the principles of Modern urbanism. Completely different from the traditional Belgrade's structure, once when NB's territory was build it contribute to the city of Belgrade to be a ''metropolis'' as an element of integration with the territory on the left side of the river Sava and the right side of the Danube.
PROBLEM: A kind of social disintegration of the NB in relation to the city of Belgrade emerge from the beginning, mostly because of the socio-political reasons - discrepancy between the ''new'' socialist - communists' ideas and the ''old'' capitalistic ones, but through time NB gained it's own identity and cultural background. It was build and grows fast, soon became the most inhabited Belgrade's municipality. With the political changes in the country, from the '90-s, citizens of Belgrade slowly started to change their perception on NB based on politics and make the new one based on the ecological, morphological and economic facts: it's characteristic morphology with plenty of parks, greenery and open spaces for the recreation and leisure; in the same time with plenty of open spaces for constructing and almost no property owners problems (since the territory of NB once was uninhabited marshy ground). Nowadays territory of NB seems to be very interesting for the new investors (domestic and from the abroad).
OBJECTIVE: Paper analyzes several new built structures/blocks in NB, with aim to find elements which, from the aspects of function and morphology, causes integration and disintegration with the surrounding. Listing those elements will help planners to lead further development of the NB in the direction of the integration with it's surrounding, despite the disintegration forces caused by ''blindness for the context'' of some of the investors constructing there. |
